00:14:48 He attended the the Peabody Normal College and Vanderbilt University Law School.
00:14:56 While teaching, he was working at Drug Store.
00:15:00 And he was admitted to the Tennessee bar in 1906.
00:15:06 And began practicing law in Poplarville, Mississippi, in 1907.
00:15:15 In 1908, he was elected to the Mississippi State Senate.
00:15:22 And he was championing championing the, I guess, the causes of poor white farmers.
00:15:32 And was very much a nativist, was very much pro white, and wanted to support the causes of the pro or the white people in Mississippi as they dealt with the post civil war realities of the the negro problem.

00:15:53 He served as Lieutenant governor of Mississippi.
00:15:58 And became a bit of a a populist.
00:16:03 And defender of Southern traditions.
00:16:08 By 1916.
00:16:11 He was elected governor himself.
00:16:14 Where he served as governor. Basically. Well, he served. He had a little break in between us, but he served from 1916 to 1920 and then again from 1928 to 1932.
00:16:31 After that, he decided to run for Senator.
00:16:36 He became senator in 1934.
00:16:43 And began began advocating for white supremacy and segregation on a national scale.
00:16:51 In the Senate.
00:16:53 In 1939, in fact, he proposed a bill.
00:16:59 That would deport all African Americans to Liberia.
00:17:04 In effect, he was. It was attempting to finish the work of the well, you know, even Abraham Lincoln, the people who supported negro migration after the Civil War, a lot of people had the plan, including people from the north. They had the plan of Negra migration. We've talked about it a couple times on the stream.

00:17:32 People don't talk about it very often, but even the people in the north were very vocal about just because we we don't want the blacks to be slaves doesn't mean we want them to be citizens. We want them, we they. We don't think they're compatible with our society. The last thing we want is a bunch of black people as as voters. And so we want to put them on.
00:17:51 Ships and ship them to Liberia, where there was already a colony of of freed slaves established and you know the the country exists today. That's.
00:18:03 That's why Liberia exists. So in 1939, he was proposing bills in Congress to deport all African Americans to Liberia.
00:18:13 Arguing that it would preserve not only the racial purity of the white people, it would prevent mongrelization and amalgamation. So mongrelization. Of course, the interbreeding of of whites with non whites amalgamation kind of the the creation of.

00:18:40 And this was his his thesis was that the America as it existed was was going to fail because of proximity to non whites. Invariably all throughout history, anytime you had this situation, interbreeding would happen. And even if it happened.

00:20:05 They they cooked up some scandal trying to say he accepted some bribes and attempted to remove him from office, and he published his book, the Book. We're going to look at tonight.

00:23:05 And so for people who are like, we wanna go back to the 90s, we wanna go back to the 80s. We wanna go to in 1947. The problem, I mean, it was already a.

00:23:15 The the second the the the slaves were freed and not removed. That was the problem.
00:23:21 But it is just gotten worse and worse and worse, and it's fascinating to listen to someone who lived in the era of segregation, who lived in an era where you could even have a governor of any state or a senator from any state openly advocating to deport Africans.
00:23:40 Back to Liberia. I mean the fact that he's doing that on the Senate floor, I mean, that's the context that at the time of the writing of this book.
00:23:48 Look, that's how much political power white people, people that believed in white primacy still had. They had someone that, even if no one, was really listening to him and no one really did. I mean the bills that he introduced got very little support. We're talking like maybe two or three other Southern senators would sign on to it, but it would go fucking nowhere.
00:24:08 Obviously, we know how this story ended with the the ending of segregation and everything else.
00:24:15 But the just the very idea that at a time when we still had people in in, in Washington that were supporting the interests of white people openly and unashamedly, and that these were the the kinds of issues that they were seeing that were on the horizon.

00:24:38 This is something else you have to understand about the context of the time that he's writing this book. In 1947, Theodore Bilbo lives in the state that has a lot of black people, a lot of black people, and in the northern states not so much. You go to Northern states or even the West Coast in California. This is before.
00:24:57 A lot of the great negro migration had really affected the rest of the country.
00:25:01 And so when they look down their noses at these southern states that were actually the only states that had high black populations to deal with, it was always like, well, that's that's not how black people are. I I know because I've never met one before, which is quite literally the the case for a good majority of of the white people in America.
00:25:22 And to the extent that a lot of people had any kind of exposure, especially at this time, we're talking about, you know, World War 2, post World War, 21 of the things that the United States government did during World War 2, even though they had segregated barracks in, you know, in the.
00:25:40 For me, they still did brainwashing sessions with the the the people who were enlisting and the people that that were in the in that were going to fight the war effort. You still had to go through essentially diversity.

00:25:54 They had. They had diversity training to get you to because most white people, maybe they would talk a big game and talk shit about the southern states being racist, but then all of a sudden, once they had to be hanging out with black people, all the sudden the tune changed.

This was the chipping away at segregation before the actual removal of segregation at the federal level where you had executive orders that were telling companies.
00:26:30 That they couldn't discriminate by race and because of the war effort demanded that even negroes could work anywhere in this sort of a thing. And so the federal government was was already trying to chip away at segregation using the war as an excuse to do so.

00:26:53 I don't think it's in this part, but maybe a little bit later, so this is this is the context in which Theodore Bilbo finds himself trying to warn the Whites of America that their civilization is going to be doomed, and he warns them that just because the misogyny nation and amalgamation takes such a long time, and maybe it's not going to happen in your lifetime.
